The Meredith Willson Digital Collection

The Meredith Willson Digital Collection is a partnership of the Great American Songbook Foundation and HistoryIT.

The website showcases a selection from the archives of Meredith Willson.  The collection contains photos and musical scores dating to the 1920s; scripts from radio shows he hosted; character sketches and early drafts for Meredith Willson’s The Music Man; personal scrapbook pages; correspondence with such famous figures as former first lady Mamie Eisenhower, a fellow Iowa native who became a close friend; Vietnam-era letters exchanged with a nephew who later died in combat, and more.

The Great American Songbook Foundation is dedicated to preserving influential American popular songs and jazz standards from the early 20th century. The foundation’s headquarters houses a collection of compositions, recordings, scrapbooks, correspondence, and photographs from the archives of performers and composers whose work is included in the American Songbook.
